Privacy fences are generally solid fences built at eye level or taller to create a secluded area by providing a visual block from an unsightly view or direct views into your yard from neighboring homes. A solid fence can also block noise from traffic.
They can also be built in a semi private design with spaces between the pickets to allow air flow while maintaining limited visibility. Shadowbox is another semi private design that appears solid from face on, but allows visibility and air flow from an angle.
Privacy fences can be dressed up with curved top lines from an arch or saddled cut, larger posts, box columns, decorative cut posts, framed and trimmed panel tops, or with lattice or picket top accent panels. Generally, a privacy fence is six feet tall but can be taller or shorter depending on your specific needs. Privacy fences are generally built with wood, but can be made from PVC and even aluminum.
